Club Penguin and Second Life make it into top 10 fastest growing UK sites

Recently published data from Neilsen Online, reported on by Net Imperative shows the surfing destinations of UK residents.

The research covers the period May 2007 – May 2008. The top ten based on total minutes includes sites such as MSN Messenger, eBay, Facebook and Google Search (the top four in order).

The research also looked at the top ten fastest growing sites by total minutes. Extract:

Facebook is the only website/application to have increased its total minutes by over 200,000 ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú in fact it grew by almost 1.8 billion minutes.

Fellow social media site, YouTube, was second with an increase of 196 million minutes.

The inclusion of Wikipedia, Club Penguin and Veoh mean that social media accounts for half of the fastest growing websites by total UK minutes.

Interestingly (and encouragingly for the sector), both Second Life and Club Penguin are in the top ten (shown in the graph below) with 296 and 42 million minutes respectively.

And clearly many Mum’s have been to Asda.
